PSOPHONIA DANCE COMPANY presents New Pulse November 18-19, 2011
Program
featuring choreography by Psophonia Company Dancers
Houston, TX- New Pulse, featuring original choreography by Psophonia Dance Company dancers, will offer a dynamic range of emotional content giving rise to new choreographic voices in our community. Highlighting members both current and former within the company, Co-Artistic Directors Sonia Noriega and Sophia L. Torres, seek to nurture and encourage young choreographers by giving them an opportunity to create and hone their choreographic skills. New Pulse will feature works by Emily Bischoff, Kendall Kramer, Marielle Perrault, Patty Solórzano, Stephanie Beall, Jeanna Sneed Vance, and Tapley Whaley at Barnevelder Theater on Friday and Saturday, November 18-19, 2011 at 8pm.
Inspired by Mexican poet, Octavio Paz, Patty Solórzano will present ENTRE IRSE Y QUEDARSE /BETWEEN GOING AND STAYING a dance about the reluctance of leaving things left behind - family, love, childhood, country, culture, or identity and moving forward. Shenanigans by Emily Bischoff, explores the idea of rapid thought and the many choices that are connected by seemingly random but constant threads. This quirky, fast paced dance is a collection of short information blurbs that move between individuals with abrupt fluidity.
In stark contrast, Tapley Whaley’s Cry of 146, deals with the exploitation of sex trafficking among the young. This dance was originally created for a benefit concert called Not For Sale that raised money for the anti-human trafficking organization Love 146. After leaving Psophonia to start a family, Whaley a former dancer with Psophonia is returning to set her work on the company.
Marielle Perrault will offer audiences a joyful dance in Boroto, with music by Badenya Les Freres Coulibaly. Kendall Kramer, in collaboration with Perrault, will present I. Photo II. Synthesis, an investigation of light manipulation as a tool to change one’s perception of a dance. Performing the evening program are Psophonia’s members Stephanie Beall, Emily Bischoff, Haylee Garner, Kendall Kramer, Tory Pierce, Shawn Rawls, and Jamie Zahradnik.
Show times are Friday and Saturday, November 18-19 at 8pm at Barnevelder Theater, 2201 Preston St. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. To purchase tickets, visit www.psophonia.com or call 713-802-1181.ext. 4.
